Artist Bio
Santie Cronje is a contemporary artist based in the South Waikato region. She's been exhibiting in New Zealand galleries since 2008, her early symbolic works exploring themes of settling into a new country and finding one's place within it. However, after 2019 and the global pandemic, Santie's style changed to a more expressive way of painting, similar to her early days before moving to New Zealand in 1999. Following the pandemic, Santie painted landscapes for a few years, inspired by her Waikato surroundings, but eventually, she felt a need to reconnect emotionally with her art, looking inward for inspiration. Through painting, Santie investigates her feelings, offering a chance for viewers to connect with their own. Her paintings have been featured in New Zealand art calendars, articles, and books such as ‘New Zealand 'Gallery’ and recently '101 Contemporary Waikato artists' by Peter Dornauf. Her work is held in private collections both in New Zealand and abroad.
